As opposed to solid brakes, ventilated ones are hollowed out with fins or vanes joining together the disc's two contact surfaces. These fins ensure that the heat can easily dissipate. Ventilated brake discs, also called two-piece discs, are often thicker than non-ventilated solid ones.
Worn brake discs
Broken or worn brake discs can be recognized by a number of points. If they make a peeping, scratching, vibrating or knocking sound while braking, this is often an indication of malfunction. A loosening brake pedal or a clamping brake mechanism can also indicate a defect. The braking distance is often also increased if something isn?t completely right. Replacement brake discs
After a while, brake discs need to be replaced. They can become too thin or get distorted. The manufacturer often specifies the minimum thickness of the disc.
