Battery clamps

The battery clamps ensure that the car battery and the power cables are in contact with each other. Not being able to start the car is a common problem. In many cases this is caused by corrosion or rust on the terminals of the battery. In this case it is important to replace these clamps. This ensures that the car battery is in good condition again and that the car and electrical equipment work properly again. At Winparts you will easily find the suitable clamps for your car battery with your car model. Fill this in on the website and the correct car parts will then be displayed.

The car battery ensures that the car can start and that the electrical equipment of the car works. Think for example of the  windshield wiperstail lights and the radio. There are two terminals on the car battery. The battery clamps are connected to these battery terminals in order to be able to make contact with the cables that supply energy. In addition, the clamps ensure that the cables remain attached to the battery. Without these clamps, the cables would lose contact after a threshold or bend. Just like on a normal battery, the battery terminals have a plus and a minus side. The positive terminal is for voltage and current and the negative terminal is for ground.

Battery clamps corroded

The battery clamps will rust or corrode over time. Rust and corrosion are a reaction of the battery clamps and the conductors in contact with each other. It is therefore important to check the battery clamps about twice a year and to clean them with  anti-rust. If there is too much corrosion or rust on the clamps, it will cause the battery to malfunction. When the battery no longer works properly, you can no longer start the car, which is of course very annoying. In this case the battery clamps will have to be replaced.

Connect battery clamps

When connecting the new battery clamps, it is important that the battery terminals are clean. You can smear the terminals with  Vaseline to prevent premature corrosion. With modern batteries where the poles are closed, this is not necessary. The battery has a minus and plus terminal. Make sure you connect the correct clamp to the correct battery terminal. Incorrect connection can cause malfunctions in the  electrical circuit. First connect the red clamp to the positive terminal. The other (often black or blue) terminal can then be connected to the negative terminal. When the car does not start,  jumper cables or battery chargers are connected to the battery clamps.
