It may be possible that the car light is broken, such as the headlight bulb (like the high beam or low beam light), the tail light, indicator light or fog light. At Winparts you can find all types of car bulbs that you may need.
When the lighting of your car stops working, you can check whether it is due to the car light bulb or if it is caused by another issue. A broken car light bulb is easily recognisable though. If you get the car bulb from the lamp unit, you quickly see if the filament is broken or if the car bulb is blackened. Both indicate a broken car light bulb. If you are planning to replace your broken car light bulb, then of course you need to know what kind of car light you need.
Which car bulb do I need?
Before you buy a car lamp such as a headlight or taillight, you need to know what type of fitting your lamp has. This can be read in the manual of your car for instance. Note, however, that a previous owner may have replaced both the lamp unit including the light bulb. Hence, the light that fits your car according to the manual may have changed. What you can do best is the following. Get the current light bulb from the car and check the fitting. On the side is stated what kind of car bulb type is currently used in your car. This can be for example an H1, H4, or H7 lamp. This way you know for sure which the type of car light bulb you need.
Replacing car bulbs
You can easily replace the bulb yourself. We explain how to replace the bulb below.
Start off by making sure that the car has been switched off for a while. Car lights can get very hot when they have been on for a while. To be able to replace them properly, they need to cool down first. Likely that you don't want to burn your hands. You can then get the broken light from the fitting, you can put the new one back in. Please pay attention, always get a halogen lamp by the foot and never at the bulb itself! When you touch the glass, the light can get greasy and will give less light. If you want to assemble a car bulb other than a halogen lamp, use a cloth. Be careful though. If you squeeze too hard, the bulb may break and unfortunately, you need to purchase new ones.
