The headlights of the car are very sensitive to stone chips and weather influences from the outside. This can cause the headlights to become dull, damaged and discolored. Damaged or dull headlights can negatively affect the amount of light coming out of the units. Why do headlights become dull?
In most cars, the headlight lenses are made of a transparent plastic with a coating layer over it. The headlight lenses are exposed to a lot of sunlight, stone chips, rain and other weather influences. Unfortunately, it is therefore almost impossible to prevent the headlights from discolouring, becoming dull or scratching over time. Especially when the car is outside a lot, you will not escape this. In the case of dull headlights, you can choose to polish the headlights, or you can replace the headlight lenses. In case of deeper scratches, cracks or even oxidized headlights, it is better to replace the headlight glass. That way you can move forward again.
Replace headlight lens
Replacing the headlight glass is not a difficult job and can therefore easily be carried out yourself. On most older cars, the headlamp lens can be easily jacked out of the unit. The new lens can then be clicked back on in the same way it came off.
On more modern cars, the lens may be clicked into the unit, but also glued. In this case, you can heat the headlight with a hair dryer or heat gun to liquefy the adhesive. You can then carefully jack the lens off with, for example, a paint stripper or screwdriver. When installing the new lens, ensure a good seal between the lens and the unit so that the headlamp remains watertight.
