If you are going to replace or maintain the timing belt yourself, you need the right tools. The exact tools you need depend on the car make and engine type. You probably don't have most of the tools you need at home. However, we advise you not to work with tools that are not suitable for this job. The timing belt can only be replaced correctly with the appropriate tools.

Which timing belt tools do I need?

The tools you need when replacing the timing belt often depend on the car make and type of engine block. It is most convenient to purchase a complete timing belt kit, but also to immediately connect a new water pump. The water pump generally wears in parallel with the belt. It would be a shame if you replaced the timing belt and then have to take it off again to replace the water pump.

Adjust timing belt

When replacing the timing belt, you will need to properly adjust and tension it. This is done on the basis of tension rollers and a tension meter. In the manual of the car you can find what the voltage value in Kg/Hz should be for your vehicle. With the tension gauge you can then easily measure whether the tension on the belt is adjusted correctly.
