Tow ropes are the solution when the car unexpectedly breaks down and comes to a standstill, but also when it gets stuck in the mud, for example. We recommend that you purchase your own tow ropes for each car. The cables are adjusted to the weight of the car. If the car is towed with cables that are not suitable for the weight of the car, they can break during the journey. At Winparts you will find tow ropes for a maximum load of, for example, 2800 kg, 3000 kg, 4000 kg and 5000 kg. So check carefully which cables apply to your vehicle.
Are you going to tow a car out of the mud? Then make sure to use stretch tow ropes. Often a run-up has to be taken to drag the car out of the mud. If you use tow cables without stretch in this case, this will cause a hard blow, which can destroy the towing eye and the chassis.
Tow ropes rules
When purchasing tow ropes, it is first of all important to pay attention to the tow weight. To choose the tow ropes with the right load capacity, we take about five times the weight of the car. When the cables are attached to the car to be towed and the auxiliary car, it is important to know that there should be a maximum distance of 5 meters between the two vehicles while driving. In addition, the towed car must turn on the hazard lights so that the towing is made known to other road users. Towing trades between a car and a motorcycle are strictly prohibited. Finally, it is important to know that a car with defective brakes, steering or lighting may not be towed.
Attach tow ropes
To correctly attach the tow ropes, it is important to know where the attachment points are. You can find this in the owner's manual of the car. The tow ropes cannot be attached to the bumper, but must be attached to the designated towing eye. Sometimes the towing eye is not yet attached to the bumper, but is loose in the car near the spare wheel. In this case, screw the eye into the bumper, in most cases a cover will have to be opened for this. When driving, do not start the engine, but make sure that the ignition is switched on so that the car cannot jump on the steering wheel lock. Finally, indicate well and in good time while driving in which direction you are going, so that other road users can take this into account.
